Summer 2019 •

At the end of the day... did you play?
Dear Friends of the Pleasant Dale Park District,
I write to you today wishing you and your families a pleasant springtime. I always love this time of
year. As we experience the daily struggle with snow, cold, and ice the excitement and anticipation
of green grass, sunshine, and summer grows each day. Our sta continues to plan for a variety of
di erent programs for your summer enjoyment. We have new summer class opportunities along
with some of your favorites. We will again have our Flying 4 Kids Kite Fly Event, our 7th annual golf
outing at Flagg Creek, Independence Day Fireworks celebration on July 3, our 2nd annual Bikes &
Brews ride for adults, and our end of the summer drive-in movie in the park just to name a few.
I am happy to report that White Bu alo Park went through a complete transformation last fall. The
park now boasts a new playground with rubber surfacing, a picnic shelter, educational signage, and
a variety of new landscaping. While the park has been open, we will be hosting an o cial grand
opening sometime this spring so be on the lookout for that event.
After delays experienced in 2018, our major capital plans are back on track. The lack of an Illinois
state budget over the last few years put a halt to a major source of grant funding for park districts.
I am pleased to say that the OSLAD (Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development) Grant
program through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources returned and we were recently
awarded the maximum grant amount of $400,000 towards our Walker Park Redevelopment Project.
We are also working on plans for a complete renovation of the Soehrman Park splash pad. This will
include new surfacing as well as new water elements.
I would like to take a moment to publicly thank two of our Board Commissioners that will no longer
be serving the district: Ernie Moon and Kevin Burke. Mr. Moon is completing his 2nd 6-year term
on the Board this spring and has been a dedicated and bene cial presence since 2007. Mr. Burke
started his service in 2011 and was invaluable to the district via his leadership through 2018. Thank
you both!
Sincerely,
Matt Russian
